Why don't intelligent people learn? The simple answer is: they think they already know it all!
As a recovering smart person, I'm am learning ask myself questions:
- Is it possible (just possible, maybe not even probable) that I may be wrong?
- Or if not really wrong, that some other idea may be just as valid as mine?
- What assumptions am I making that keep me from looking for other ideas?
- Am I willing to let go of these assumptions in order to learn?
- And if there's some other really cool idea out there that I've overlooked, is it possible that I'm missing out on the potential benefits of implementing that idea?
- What is the opportunity cost of assuming I'm right all the time? Am I willing to pay that price?
