Innovative Alternatives to Layoffs


According to Wharton management professor Peter Cappelli, it's time to resurrect practices from the 1980's "such as voluntary retirements or salary cuts, hiring freezes, reductions in hours, or the cancellation of business trips and/or costly perquisites. Even standard benefit packages and matching contributions to 401(k) plans might come under the microscope."
